thebox.bz launches torrent web site for UK TV to rival UKnova

Since 2004 UKnova.com has firmly held the BitTorrent crown for UK TV Episode Distrubution, But is all this about to change with the introduction of thebox.bz a new torrent site for UK TV Episodes.

thebox.bz launched officially on the 7th may 2007 and has already attracted 2500 users to the web site. There are a few differences between both of these torrent sites the main one being that UKnova does not allow commercially available material to be posted ie. TV Episodes that have been released on DVD, thebox.bz does allow this type of material along with SCENE releases of British TV Episodes.

For a lengthy period of time UKnova has been notoriously hard to register with because of the user limit applied to the tracker, this has left many willing participants locked out of the community. thebox also has a 40,000 user limit so if you want to take part register fast or miss the chance of UK TV again.

It looks as if some hostility between the two sites that was brewing has at last been amicably resolved and both parties now seem to be co-existing quite happily. UKnova however do not like members downloading torrents from UKnova and seeding them at thebox as a new torrent.

Another few key differences with thebox is that posted torrents remain live forever and not just 28days like UKnova, And anyone can upload a torrent at thebox without having been granted special permissions.

It’s good to at last see an alternative to UKnova although i see it being hard to shake it’s crown loose just yet as the King Of British TV Distrubution. thebox however does have a few differences that will appeal to some users, the major one being the availability of commercial material on the tracker.

If you missed out on registering for UKnova get over to thebox.bz now as it really is a great alternative for British TV Torrents.

    Having been on uknova for 2 years, i’ve hardly visit since they relaunched.

    UKNova have shot themselves in the foot with their redesign - it’s unusable, ugly and just a complete waste of time (for the developers, the mods who field calls for improvements, and users who faff around trying to find stuff that was clear and concise on the old site).

    TheBox looks great and is intuitive. Once the community gets to a decent size - byebye uknova!

      Hi Goran,

      Unfortunately thebox.bz seems to have closed public registrations and the only way to gain access now is by being invited by another member.

      Have to agree totally - they really screwed up on the redesign of Uknova. It wasn’t needed. I guess somebody just wanted to play with AJAX!

      I know this sounds crappy but does anyone have an invite for thebox?

      I found an old Dennis Potter play on there called Blue Remembered Hills, but I can’t get my mitts on it without signing up and its closed at the mo.

      TheBox deactivated my account, even though I’ve been seeding all of my torrents 24/7 ever since I downloaded them and have never deleted a torrent. I guess apparently seeding all of my torrents 24/7 isn’t enough for them! They must want me to seed for at least 35 hours a day to keep my account!

      The box now has a far greater number of active torrents than UK nova. The box also has a good number of free downloads and faster downloads. It might be a newcomer compared to UKnova is far better.

      the list is getting very long but if anyone can offer an invite i would greatly appreciate it i keep my share ratios up with all bittorrents that i use
