How Hollywood Got A Movie Piracy Bill Passed By Canada
Posted on 03 June 2007 by Stuart
For over three years now the US has been trying to convince Canada to introduce cinema anti-camcording legislation. Letters sent directly to the Canadian Prime Minister from senators Senators Diane Feinstein (D-Calif) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) failed as did putting Canada on a U.S. government watch list three years ago.
What seems to have worked however is sending the Governator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to Canada on a three day trade mission Schwarzenegger left Canada with assurances from the ministers of Heritage, Justice and Industry that a bill to address the piracy problem will be introduced to the House of Commons.
Finally on June 1, 2007, the Government of Canada responded to U.S. pressure and introduced anti-camcording legislation. This shows video how the movie piracy issue leaped to the front of the line.
