Pownce a P2P and Social Network is Launched by Digg Founder Kevin Rose

Kevin Rose is arguably one of the leaders in internet Social Networking websites, It’s not surprising then when the founder of the hugely successful Digg web site decides to start a new project called Pownce people sit up and take notice.
Pownce is in part a social network, chat and file transfer network combined into a single application, something similar to AllPeers or Tubes we hear you say? Yes and No.
So how will Pownce differ from these two readily available applications, here is a short excerpt from the Pownce website.
What Pownce Does
Right now, there are four basic things you can send: messages, links, files, and events.
You might send an event out to a dozen of your friends letting them know you’re hosting a party this Friday. They could easily get the event details you entered, respond with questions or comments and then quickly rsvp.
Say you had a great photo you wanted to share with all of your friends. Just add the file and all of your friends will get it right away. They’ll be able to reply and tell you if it’s cool. You could even post songs you recorded in your home studio to share with your friends
Pownce also has a desktop application available in addition the the website, this desktop application built using Adobe’s Integrated Runtime (AIR) which is a great choice from Pownce as it makes the desktop client available to all Operating Systems. AIR works like Flash if you’re familiar with that. You install a little piece of code on your computer and then you can run any piece of software written for it.
As with most new ventures Pownce is in Private Beta the moment, you may however request an invitation for Beta testing from the Pownce web site. The basic client is free and for $20 you can get a PRO version which increases file upload limits and disables advertising.
At the time of writing P2PViNE’s invitation for Beta testing has not been processed, as soon as we have a copy a full detailed review will be available.
