Far Cry 2 Hamachi howto
Posted on 01 November 2008 by Stereohype
Since there is no (multiplayer) demo of Far Cry 2 and you are curious if the multiplayer is worth the purchase, this Hamachi guide will easily enable you to test out Far Cry 2 multiplayer online. It requires pretty much the same steps as with Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Since I have explained already how Hamachi works in general, I will keep this guide as brief as possible so you can get into action right away.
Assuming you have installed Hamachi and joined R6V2 network(s) with active users. You can also try hamachigames.info which seems to have better stats. It is recommended to connect to many networks since this game is new and not everyone knows how to get it working. Now the Far Cry 2 Hamachi fix!
To get Far Cry 2 working over Hamachi you need to do 2 simple things:
Step 1) Set the Hamachi adapter as your primary LAN adapter.
Open up the Control Panel. Then open the network connections menu.
At the top bar, under the advanced tab (in Vista press the “alt” key to see the bar) open up the advanced settings menu, then move the Hamachi adapter above your main LAN.

Step 2) Open up the Control Panel. Then open the network connections menu. Right click on the Hamachi adapter and select Properties. Doubleclick TCP/IPv4 and click the Advanced button.
Change the Interface metric from 9000 to 10.

When all this is done you may need to reboot. Also make sure the right ports are open in your router/modem and your firewall allows it.
Once you are in the game, make an offline account, go to multiplayer select offline account, go to LAN and simply join a match. If someone is hosting you should see a server, otherwise obviously not. Ask people on the network if anyone is hosting, or host yourself and put it in your Hamachi nickname so others know. Don’t be surprised if no one is hosting, just try at a later time.
Please post your comments/problems and whether or not this works for you.
Hopefully you will be able to join and enjoy the game now!

This guide has been insanely helpful to myself to use, and of course pass onto others.
I have a rather long list of servers but I dont want to seem them all clog up so Ill give one that has less action at present. (I still want to get my pals into these hamachi servers xD)

I can’t see any servers in the list, yet one is supposedly being hosted. I followed this guide pretty closely, any advice?

It works, too bad FC2 MP sucks : \
Just wondering what “metric” is, what does it mean?

I have done everything exactly as described in this article. Then I hosted a game, opened up the console and used ‘net_gethostaddress’ to check on what IP and port the server was running. The console tells me it’s running on my Hamachi IP and the forwarded port(s).
…but still nobody can join my match. Every single time the game responds with nothing more than ‘Match search failed’. Trying to connect directly to my Hamachi IP just doesn’t work.
Why?
